Oh, Verhoeven does that kind of thing. I haven't read the book but I understand your sentiment, and it still doesn't detract from how good the film is. It's crap, but it's so bloody enjoyable! It's "Archie" in space! Archie trying to destroy the bugs that blew up Riverdale, and Betty & Veronica following him into the service!
