Efficiency is the whole point...if someone is set on killing they'll do it with their bare hands. but, with a gun there is no chance to run away, or overpower and disarm the killer. And using a gun allows them to kill many people at one time. Sure, a pipe bomb might kill lots of people at once but the whole point of these shootings is to be there to kill the people for the satisfaction. Just look at the motives the shooters have - always revenge for some perceived wrong. Take away the guns and you'll have only a few people stabbed in a school and almost all of them will survive.
