John Walsh, a popular member of the Castlebar Camera Club was awarded the Photographic Federation of Ireland’s Licentiateship Distinction for an excellent panel of photos submitted for consideration to a meeting of the Federation in Leighlin Bridge, Carlow, last weekend. Camera Club News - 16 Nov 2007

Congratulations to member John Walsh, who gained his Licentiateship Distinctionnction last weekend at The Irish Photographic Fedations judging session in The Earl Bagnal Hotel, Leighlinbridge, Co. Carlow last weekend. It was Johns first time to enter a panel of his prints for judging, and he took as his theme old houses and the strange variety of objects that are to be found therein.

John's set of prints had a lovely tonal balance, his colours were beautiful but muted and his selection of viewpoints spot on. We look forward to seeing John go on the next level on the Distinctions ladder.

John showed off his panel of prints to the club meeting last Thursday and was duly presented with his Certificate by Michael O'Sullivan, Club chairperson, Distinctions Secretary, IPF and Vice Chairperson of the Federation.

After the excitement subsided members betook themselves out on the town with cameras and tripods to try and capture Castlebar by Night. Rain interrupted but did not spoil matters altogether - so much so that the experiment will be run again in the Spring when a full session will be allotted to members.

Next week, on Thursday evening 22nd November, in room SR14, GMIT, Castlebar we will have part two of our practical studio portrait session. It promises to be another great evening's  photography so why not join us at 8.00pm sharp to join in the session? See you there.
