Michael McLaughlin, photographer extraordinaire from Westport,  held twenty-two enthusiastic people in thrall for almost two hours at the Mayo Photographic Club meeting in the GMIT last Thursday night.

He spoke of how his career had evolved, his press work, travel photography, wedding photography and his enjoyment of classical landscape pictures. He backed up his talk by showing many of his photographs and telling the stories that went with them. He answered a multitude of questions and willingly shared his expertise and gave advice. He pointed out the importance of knowing the capabilities of the cameras we are using and also stressed the need to look at what other people are doing, photographically, so we can learn.

It was unanimously agreed that it was an excellent and informative lecture.

Next Thursday's meeting, on November 22nd, is a Distinctions Workshop for those preparing to put  bodies of work forward for adjudication by the Irish Photographic Federation. (The distinctions to be gained are three - Licentiate, Associateship and Fellowship in that order).

As always those interested in photography, no matter what the level, are most welcome to attend.
