CHAMPIONS Raheny United were given a real scare by DLR Waves in a tense encounter Bus Éireann Women's National League at Jackson Park today.

Larry Mahony's DLR took the lead through a Michelle Dunne header from a free-kick just ten minutes into the tie but Raheny equalised through Noelle Murray after the ball wasn't cleared from a free-kick midway through the first half.

United took the lead late in the first half when Caroline Thorpe won a penalty after a challenge by Dunne and Rebecca Creagh scored penalty.

Raheny extended that lead early in the second half when Katie McCabe's deflected effort found the net but DLR responded and came close when they hit the crossbar through Ashling Byrne. Mags Doyle made it 3-2 when she found the net with a header then in the last kick of the game Doyle had a flicked headed effort saved by the Raheny keeper.

Beaten FAI Umbro Women's Senior Cup finalists Castlebar were in prolific mood in Cork when they secured a 5-0 victory at Bishopstown. Katie Walsh put Celtic 1-0 up from a free-kick after 12 minutes and the second Castlebar goal came midway through the half when Maz Sweeney won a penalty and scored it herself.

Aviva Stadium goal star Emma Mullin showed her quality with two goals. She made it 3-0 with a header about eight minutes into second half then added the fourth not long after. Danielle Caldwell got the fifth goal with her first touch as a player in the league.

Elsewhere Peamount had a score against Shamrock Rovers who went 1-0 up after just three minutes when Laura Chambers scored with a free-kick from 25 yards out.

Unfortunately for the Hoops they gave away a penalty to make it 1-1 at half-time with Youtube sensation Stephanie Roche finding the net. Ruth Comerford made it 2-1 early in the second half before Roche scored again to seal a hard-earned 3-1 win.

In the other tie this evening Wexford Youths beat Galway WFC 4 - 2 at Ferrycarrig Park. The home side took the lead in the 11th minute through Julia Testrop but were denied the opportunity to lead at the break when Susie Cunningham levelled for Galway WFC in the 42nd minute.

Edel Kennedy restored Wexford's lead in the 53rd minute then drama followed less than 60 seconds later when Galway were awarded a penalty kick but Sinead Taylor failed to convert the opportunity.

Galway did level in the 61st minute through Lynsey McKey but just four minutes later Youths regained their lead through Amy Walsh. Jessica Gleeson converted a 90th minute penalty to wrap up the three points for the home side.
