Connell names Ireland U19 Women's squad for Portugal friendlies

REPUBLIC of Ireland U19 Women's Head Coach Dave Connell has confirmed his squad for two friendly games against Portugal next week.

The Irish are preparing for the UEFA Championships qualifying round tournament in Dublin at the end of September when they face Kazakhstan, Greece and Denmark.

Connell said: "Portugal are always difficult opponents and especially so on their own patch. This will be a very good test for us.

"We're down one or two players who are only coming back from injuries while a couple of others are unavailable but it's good for other players to come in and prove they can do a job at this level.

"The likes of Michelle O'Regan has done well for her club so we're bringing her in to see how she'll do.

"We're playing at home in the qualifiers and we want to qualify for the next stage but it's a tough group. Greece beat Germany and Spain at U17s last year and will have a few graduates of that side. Denmark are always strong but we know this is not going to be an easy opening stage for us."
