Community Radio Castlebar - CRC fm is a community based radio station with a licensed issued by the IRTC to broadcast to the town and environs of Castlebar. We cover a five to ten mile radius of the town and have a potential listenership of up to 20,000 people.

Application for a radio license back in 1994 was promoted by the Mayo VEC and supported by Mayo County Council, Castlebar UDC and forty volunteer representatives. Organizations in the town are members of the Board of Directors which manage the station. Transmission began on the 30th of June, 1995.

CRC fm is committed to providing a quality community broadcasting service which reflects the needs of local community which and informs entertains and develops that community.

The Community Policy of the radio is to provide access for the whole community to the air-waves, and to provide training and work-experience in radio technology to members who are interested. Over the years, we have provided work-experience opportunities to National School, Secondary School and Third-Level students and radio skills to community groups.

The radio provides a range of programmes in current affairs, sports, the arts music and special interests. It broadcasts for six to eight hours, seven days a week.

The station is staffed by a manager, assistant manager and employs 16 FÁS trainees. Approximately 140 volunteers are involved in programming, production, fund-raising and technical production.

The station has digital recording and editing facilities (MiniDisc). Shortly we will be experimenting in web broadcasts.
