This tour heads north out of
Castlebar and takes in the famous fishing lakes of North Mayo including
Lough Cullin and Lough Conn at Pontoon. It then passes by the home
of our former President of Ireland, Mrs. Mary Robinson before making
its way to the busy market town of Crossmolina. It then turns due
east and into Mayo's second town of Ballina, which is built on the
world famous Moy salmon river. It then travels south along the route
of the Moy to the town of Foxford, made famous by its wollen mills
and the famous Foxford rugs and blankets. It then passes by Callow
lake and into the busy market town of Swinford and then turns west
back into Castlebar, passing through the villages of Bohola and
Ballyvary. On the outskirts of Castlebar the route passes Turlough
House which is currently being renovated as part of the National
Museum of Ireland.
