The route taking in the Plains
of Mayo is flat all the way (the word Mayo is derived from the plain
of the yew trees). Starting from Castlebar the route heads due south
in the reverse order of yesterdays final portion and goes through
the villages of Ballyheane, Ballintober, Partry and into Ballinrobe.
From there it is left and on into Hollymount and Claremorris with
a long drag up to Barnacarrol and then onto into the Marian shrine
village of Knock. From there it is due north into Kiltimagh and
Bohola and then it is west into Castlebar through Ballyvary and
Turlough.
