The Local Employment Service (LES) works by
providing local, community-based points which act as gateways, for both long-term unemployed people and potential employers, to the full range of available employment options.

The Local Employment Service centres are the core
element of the LES.  They provide an intensive one-to-one
guidance counselling service, access to customised education, training and temporary employment programmes.

While priority will be given to long-term
unemployed people, the service is also available to:

• Those registered as unemployed for 6 months or more
• Those who are dependent partners of long-term unemployed people
• Lone parents
• People with disabilities
• Early school-leaver
