Employment Legislation
The legislation covering Health & Safety is

Safety in Industry Acts 1995 - 1980
-
General Application Regulations 1993
-
Safety, Health & Welfare at Work Act 1989
-
All employers are responsible for the safety, health & welfare of all
its employees at work.
-
The legislation states that the employer and the employee have fundamental
responsibilities, which they must adhere to, within the workplace.
For the employer these are:
-
A safe place of work
-
A safe system of work
-
Safe access to the work
-
Protective clothing (where applicable)
-
Safe machinery
-
All necessary training and supervision as required
For the employee, they are:
-
To take reasonable care of his/her own health/safety and also of others
to comply with all safety requirements

To use protective clothing and equipment
-
To report all defects in the workplace which may be dangerous
All employers must have a Health & Safety statement which all employees
must be aware of abide by.
