Employment Legislation
The legislation, which covers payment of wages,
is the Payment of Wages Act 1991.

The following is an example of some aspects of legislation in this area;

  • The Payment of Wages Act states that every employee has the right to a written statement of wages to be inclusive of gross pay and subsequent deductions.
  • All deductions should be either necessary by law, (for example PAYE and PRSI) or otherwise agreed between the employer and employee in a contract or written capacity (VHI payments for example).
  • The act states that every employee has a right to a readily negotiable mode of wage payment.
