Further Education in Ireland
The purpose of the Central Applications Office (CAO) is to process centrally
applications for admission to the first year of undergraduate courses in
institutions within the Republic of Ireland and to deal with them in an
efficient and fair manner. The participating institutions retain the function
of making decisions on admissions. CAO is a private limited company registered
The CAO Application System is an arrangement by which applicants, using
a single application form, may apply for up to 20 courses from the entire
range of courses offered by the institutions in the combined CAO system.
Up to 10 degree courses may be chosen and/or up to 10 diploma/certificate
courses may be chosen.
In both cases, courses must be listed in order of preference
