What Is Expected of
A Volunteer Tutor?

Literacy Problems in Ireland
A literacy scheme consists largely of volunteers from the local community who have come together to provide a service for adults with reading and writing difficulties.

Each scheme has its own local literacy Organiser who is responsible for ensuring a high quality literacy service. This involves a range of tasks including: the provision of a variety of tuition options to meet student requirements, publicity, training and recruitment of students and tutors.

The Adult Education Organisers in the V.E.C. provide essential support and are key figures in the development of schemes
