Further Education in the UK
From 1998 entry the Government is introducing a new system for supporting
students in HE.
There is an initial student contribution to tuition fees of £1,000
per year, representing about a quarter of the average cost of a course.
Tuition will continue to be free for students from lower income families.
Other full-time students will pay up to £1,000 per year (depending
on parental income).
Beginning in 1998/99, the current system of maintenance grants will
be phased out and replaced by a loan system.
Students will not be required to make any contribution for their received
maintenance support until they have graduated and are in work.
