Arts and Culture
If you are more interested in more static art forms there are plenty of excellent examples of sculpture around Mayo.  Here are just three, but many of the libraries around the county also house some very interesting pieces of sculpture so keep an eye out for those also.

Kiltimagh Sculpture Park:
The park is the result of a sculpture symposium held in Kiltimagh during the Summer of 1993 whereby sculptors of national renown, assisted by local students, completed this series of sculpture.  Some of the pieces are life-size, many witty, all in all though, the collection is superb.

Castlebar Sculpture Trail:
This trail incorporates 11 sites where sculpture/s can be seen.  The locations include the Mayo County Council Buildings, Castlebar Library and many can be seen along the ring road of Castlebar.  Many are quite striking and all make for interesting interpretation.

North Mayo Sculpture Trail:
This is a unique trail of 15 site specific sculptures marking Mayo 5000.  The trail starts in Ballina and follows the coastal route to Belmullet.  In creating the trail sculptors were invited to participate from Denmark, Britain, the U.S.A. and Ireland.

The sculptors use the media of earth and stone, thus ensuring that something of the trail - a trace - will survive in the landscape of Mayo for the next 5000 years.
