Social Welfare System You and your family may be entitled to a medical card from your regional Health Board if your income is within certain guidelines. If you qualify for a medical card, you will be entitled to free doctor's care, prescribed drugs & medicines, in-patient public hospital services in public wards (including consultant services), dental, ophthalmic and aural services and appliances. Children under age 16 are covered by their parent's medical card. Young people aged 16 or over are entitled to medical card services if they are financially dependent on their parent(s) and if their parent() hold a medical card.
