News 9th November 2001

A meeting of Castlebar E-Live was held on Wednesday November 7th at G.M.I.T. Castlebar E-Live is a newly convened group for people who are interested in the environment.

It has just been announced that Castlebar E-Live has been sanctioned for £1,300 funding by the Department of the Environment and Local Government under the Local Environmental Partnership Fund 2001. The aim of the Local Environmental Partnership Fund 2001is the promotion of Sustainable Development and Environmental Awareness. Mayo County Council are to provide a similiar amount to the organisation.

Over the next few months we plan to increase our activities promoting awareness as to how we can all protect and improve our environment, culminating with an Environmental Awareness Week early in the New Year.

The meeting was joined by Ballinrobe Environmental Group and by the Natural Historical and Appreciation Association (a student group from G.M.I.T.). It was decided to rename the group Mayo E-Live to include the increased membership.

The next meeting of Mayo E-Live will take place in G.M.I.T on Wednesday night November 21st at 7p.m. Cameron Clotworthy, Dúchas Park Ranger, will address this meeting. The topic for his presentation will be Mayo National Park.

If you are interested in becoming involved please come along to this meeting or contact Brian Hoban at 094 21738 for further details.
