Castlebar
Golf Club was founded in 1910 as a 9 hole parklands course on lands leased
for the princely sum of £12 per annum. The clubhouse at the time could
best be described as rudimentary! In 1981 new land was purchased and the
course was extended to 18 holes. In 1999 the members and committee saw the
need for the course to be remodeled and modernized. One of the more fundamental
requirements was the provision of greens that could withstand all weather
conditions. To this end the club retained the services of Peter McEvoy, Walker Cup Team Manager and former player, and his company, McEvoy Cooke and Associates, to design and ultimately build our new course. |

This
new course was 2 years in the design and build phase with the end result
being that Castlebar Golf Club is now one of the finest courses in Ireland.
The most radical difference between the old course and the new is the
18 new greens, built to USGA specifications, which are all weather and
which offer a fabulous putting surface and can present the golfer with
some putts that would baffle a genius |
