FAI letter from Brian Kerr, Technical Director / Youth International Team Manager to Joe Butler

9th July 2001

Mr. Joe Butler,
Chairman,
Mayo Association Football League,
Thornbrook,
Pontoon Road,
Castlebar,
Co. Mayo.

Dear Joe,

Thank you for your very detailed letter and submission. I wish to congratulate you for the fantastic progress and progressive attitude of your League and Mayo football in general. Also, your co-operation with and recognition of Niall Harrison's work is deeply appreciated.

On the issues raised: -
1. I am well aware of the facilities and have been present at Milebush on a few occasions.

2. In my opinion, Milebush would be in contention to be regional centre if the proposal I have in my mind takes place.

3. The FAI has just commenced a consultation process with affiliates, Clubs and members towards making the best use of finance coming to the Association in the future.

4. In light of the above, I would advise holding off on any development work (stand or drainage) until you have had direct discussions with the FAI. My reasons for this are that if selected for a Regional development centre, an all-weather surface would be installed, so would the stand be in the right place? The comments I make are personal and not yet official policy of the FAI.

5. It is the intention of the FAI to advertise and appoint a new Regional Development Officer for Galway / Roscommon shortly which will allow Niall concentrate more on Mayo / Sligo, but "the more - the merrier" as far as I am concerned!

6. The Coaching Plan and involvement of the Regional Development Officers in so many crucial activities is fantastic and a model for all other areas. I presume you are satisfied with the co-operation and ability of Niall Harrison and would appreciate you making that clear to the relevant people at all opportune times as some backward legislators have been uncooperative with their efforts (just a few I might add).

I leave for Japan today and then Spain immediately on my return so will be away for the rest of the month. You can contact me on my return if you wish.

Keep the brilliant work going - it is an inspiration to see the developments in Mayo Football and the Kennedy Cup Team were great in Limerick.

Yours sincerely,

BRIAN KERR
