'Ainsworth Babes' to be honoured at Mitchels dinner

Members of the famous Castlebar junior team known as the 'Ainsworth Babes' who won the West Mayo title for the first time in 1961 will be honoured at the Mitchels dinner. They beat Achill in the West Mayo final.
The team was managed by Tommy Ainsworth who nurtured many of the younger members of the team into future senior players.
The team was captained by Jimmy Heneghan of the Turlough Road and featured players like Seanie Flynn (father of Wally), Frank McDonald, Sean Rice, Martin McManamon, John McGrath, Joe Burke, Tony Grimes (dentist), Aiden Brett (painter), brothers Dan and Paul Darcy, Owen McDonagh, Liam O'Reilly, John McHale (former editor of the Connacht Telegraph), Fr. John Lally, Fr. Sean McManamon and Billy Murphy.
They were one of the very few club teams to wear white jersies and not the red and yellow.

We look forward to meeting them on the night!
