Liam Mc Carthy Cup comes to Castlebar

On Friday last the children attending the Hurling on the Green session on the Mall in Castlebar had an unexpected visitor. The Liam Mc Carthy Cup under the control of current Cork senior hurling selector Patsy Morrissy, paid a flying visit. This was a very pleasant surprise for young hurlers of the town who aquainted themselves first hand with the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Trophy.

Mr. Morrissy explained the methods used by the Cork team in their preparation for their training sessions and games to a very captive audience. He responded to detailed questioning on their successes, player information and predictions for the current Championship. He was most impressed with the numbers of children attending and the interest shown in the game, in the town.

The Hurling on the Green project continues 4 days per week on the Mall and St. Bridgets Crescent, and who knows, but this type of dedication may some day, lead to the Liam Mc Carthy Cup making its way to the town , in the hands of a successful Mayo Senior Hurling Team.
