AUGUST 1999

Summertime Day Trips

For the past few weeks our Senior Citizens have been taken out on short trips such as Pontoon, Ballintubber, Lecanvey and Bertra. This is something they look forward to especially if the weather is good, as for the winter all their activities are indoors where we provide music and singsong.

Monster Bingo Session

As some of our activities cease for the month of August we held a Monster Bingo Session to mark the last day. This included or Wheelchair people, our Senior Citizens from the country plus our regular Senior Citizens from the area. Our prizes consisted of Wines, Chocolates, Toiletries, Groceries etc. Each person received a prize no matter how small. The evening concluded with some light refreshments which were enjoyed by all. The weekly Bingo Session is one of the most popular of our activities for our Senior Citizens.

Trip to Knock

A pilgrimage consisting of 45 of our Senior Citizens plus our P.P. took place at the end of July. A coach was organised to take the pilgrims to Knock Shrine. Mass was celebrated on our arrival and the pilgrims were involved in organising and participating in the Liturgy which was very meaningful. Afterwards they had an opportunity to do whatever they wished i.e. Visiting the Shrine, Religious Book Shop etc. They were then ferried by bus to the Belmont Hotel where they enjoyed some refreshments. On the way home all joined in a sing-along. All agreed that it was a very worthwhile day.
