January 2000

We have all settled back after the Christmas and the Millennium. The Centre here was only closed for two days during that period but a lot of our Activities did not take place. Our Meals on Wheels service was in operation everyday over the Christmas as some of the elderly and people living alone had no one else to look after them.

Our Thursday Club has not started back after Christmas yet as with the effect the flu caused we felt it safer not to take the elderly from their homes just yet taking also into account bad weather conditions. Hopefully the Club will be back to normal in February, the start of Spring.

Our Centre has also suffered badly at the hands of Vandals/ WE have had two break-ins since the new year. On the second occasion they really did some damage in which they smashed five doors, drawers on the office desk, crockery in the kitchen, not to mention the sight of chairs thrown all over the place and the office turned upside down. The sheer vandalism caused that night prevented all our Meals on Wheels people having to go without a meal the next day, plus the cost of having to replace doors etc. and get the place back in order again.
