A group of our Senior citizens recently went on a trip to Clare Island. They were taken by Mini-Bus to Roonagh Pier where they boarded the Pirate Queen for the island. It was a beautiful day and quite busy with the tourists. They were then taken on a tour of the island where they visited the church, an old Abbey ruins, the graveyard and a visit to a local craft shop where items are made on the premises. They had lunch at the Hotel where they pondered on memories of the day, the beautiful scenery and the little cultivated patches which adorned the sparsely dotted cottages.
On Monday 31st May we had a group of 50 Senior Citizens visiting from Coventry. Our own Senior Citizens were here to meet them and after some refreshments they sang and had a great chat with one another. They talked of people from the Mayo region that had moved to Coventry many years ago. A great day was had by all.
For the month of June we had a Keep Fit Course. It took place once a week on Thursdays as on this day we usually take in some Senior Citizens from the country. The participants found it very worthwhile. They benefited from it physically, socially and psychologically. Other people have expressed an interest in the Course and as a result our numbers attending will have increased when we resume after the Summer Holidays.
