Castlebar Tennis Club Update: 22 October 2001
EXPERIENCE WINS OUT IN MIXED FINAL
Long experienced Castlebar player Seamus Granahan with his partner Margaret Glancy proved to be too good for up and coming National Junior ranking star Warren Atkins and his partner Anna Cresham in the Club Championships, the finals of which were played on Sunday last. This Mixed Doubles match was to be the highlight of the Final's Day with a display of tennis not regularly seen at the Castlebar Club. After what everyone considered a thrilling match Seamus Granahan and Margaret Glancy beat Warren Atkins and Anna Cresham by 7 - 6, 0 - 6, 6 - 3. It was a marvellous spectacle to see all five courts occupied by the finalists of the day. Play commenced at 3.30 p.m. and continued until 10 p.m. when the final match came off court.
The Club Championship prizes were sponsored by McDermott-Doherty Insurance represented by Pat Doherty and by Castlebar Book and Card Centre represented by Catherine Brennan.
