The Alzheimer Centre - Marian House
by Third Class
The
Alzheimer centre is a nice building. It is also called Marian
House. It is on the Galway side of Ballindine.
It is a spectacular building. There are lots of windows in the
building, so it is bright for the patients. The garden is full
of shrubs and flowers.
We visited Marian House for Christmas. We sang Christmas
carols at Mass and then we sang Christmas songs. Afterwards
the nurses gave us sweets and drinks. We had a great time.
The patients have a disease called Alzheimer’s disease.
They forget things. They forget where they are and where they
are going.
They come into the home for a few weeks’ holidays, so
their families can have a rest from looking after them.
The building is specially designed for those patients. There
is a hallway that lets the patients keep going round and round
and they don’t have to turn back. Nurse Marian brought
us around this circle. We loved the big windows at the front,
where the patients can look out at the fields, shop and even
the busy N17 all at once!
Many nurses and carers take care of the patients there. Everyone
in Ballindine is proud of the Alzheimer Centre.
