Carracastle Christmas ConcertThe Christmas bells rang out loud and clear at Scoil Íosa, Carracastle on Friday night 12th December, when the entire school entertained an enchanted audience. Firstly, Mrs. Gillespie's class of Junior and Senior Infants gave a wonderful performance of “The Night Before Christmas”. Santa stole the show with his sackful of toys and his very special Santa hat falling off. They also sang a lovely selection of songs; Jingle Bells and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.
Mrs Maloney's First and Second Class performed “Sleepy Santa”, poor Santa forgot to wake up but having a visitor like Zola Zed around made it all the more difficult when she had cast a spell on him that would last well into the New Year. However Doctor Dope came to the rescue with his potions and rescued poor Santa. Their performance also included many songs.
Third and Fourth Class performed “Scrooge” and it was highly entertaining. Set in Dublin , a version of the old ‘School Around The Corner', it brought the audience back to the blackboards and chalk and the cold classrooms with the wooden benches. Mr. Bracken's class charmed the audience with their humorous performance.
Fifth and Sixth Class pupils, aided by their teacher, Ms. O'Reilly, performed the “Star of Wonder”. This told us about the real spirit of Christmas and they acted and sang to a very high standard. A sincere thank you to Mrs. Margaret Niland who prepared the plays with the pupils, which gave such entertainment to parents and pupils alike.
Mrs. Marian Egan's music class with pupils from Rang II and Rang III played Nursery Rhymes and traditional airs, ‘The Star of the County Down' and ‘The Dawning of the Day'. She took the audience on a trip down memory lane with The Clancy Brothers and their many hits. The audience were invited to join in song with the group and gave a rousing support to ‘The Leaving of Liverpool', ‘Come Back Paddy Reilly', ‘I'll Tell Me Ma', and ‘Down By The Sally Gardens'.
Mr. Bracken's Fourth Class joined with Fifth and Sixth Classes in entertaining the audience with some lively tunes such as ‘Roddy McCorley', ‘The Mountains of Pomeroy', and ‘The Wearing of The Green'.
