ADMISSION/ DISMISSAL

Our school opens at 9.20 a.m. Pupils are expected to attend school regularly and punctually. The back door, side door and school gate are closed at 10 a.m. by the Principal, for security reasons.
Dismissal time is 3.00 p.m., except for Infants who are dismissed at 2.00 p.m. Infants who travel by school bus are supervised by Infant teachers from 2.00-3.00 p.m. In the interests of Safety:
  • Pupils who cycle to school must get off their bicycles at the school gate and walk with their bicycles to the back of the school.
  • Junior and Senior Infants are collected outside their classroom doors. In the event of a change of person designated to collect their child, parents are asked to inform the teacher beforehand.
  • Pupils who are walking home, exit school grounds by tarmac pathway and pedestrian gate.
  • There is a drop-off/ pick-up point in the senior play-yard for parents who bring their children to/from school by car. Parents who drop off/ pick-up their children here, are expected to do so quickly and safely, with pupils using the steps to enter/exit school.
  • Pupils who go home by school bus are trained to make an orderly queue for their respective buses. Senior pupils are trained as Bus Wardens by the Principal, Pádraic Mac Eoin, to organise this procedure, which is carried out in partnership with Mayo County Council (Road Safety Section) and Bus Éireann.
  • At times of morning break (11.00 a.m.) and lunch break (1.00 to 1.30 p.m.), pupils in the upstairs classrooms enter and exit by the side door, and pupils downstairs by the main door.
  • No pupil is allowed outside the school premises during break periods. Written request from a parent is necessary for a pupil to leave the school, for good reason, during school hours.
The school has just appointed two Sixth Class pupils as Junior Road Safety Wardens for our school, in partnership with Mayo County Council. Their job is:
To promote road safety to the rest of the school,
To raise awareness of road safety to parents, teachers and community;
To raise awareness of local road safety issues;
To provide a link between Mayo County Council’s Road Safety Officer and the students.
Our school benefits from this scheme in a number of ways:
Pupils can experience working as a team and making decisions;
Pupils develop a sense of citizenship;
The scheme encourages a wide range of communication skills;
The scheme presents a positive image of the school as a safe and caring community.
