INTRODUCTION

The enclosed policies and statements were ratified by the BOM on (date). The policies, procedures and practices recorded in this School Plan have been written, reviewed and subsequently redrafted over a number of years. Draft copies were given to members of the BOM, P.A. and staff during the school years 2006-7 and 2007-8. Feedback was sought and documents redrafted taking cognisance of comments made. Documents will be continuously reviewed.

RATIONALE
The rationale in recording these policies, practices and procedures is—

  • To conform with legislation
  • To provide clear guidelines for teachers, staff, parents, the BOM, and other relevant parties within the school community
  • To ensure consistency in practice within the school community.

AIMS
We aim to create a climate of trust and respect in which each child is valued and, through learning, empowered to live a full and fulfilling life as a child.  We aim to create a happy and stimulating learning environment where each child is encouraged to develop to his/her potential.
We seek to develop in each pupil:

  • the highest possible academic potential with respect to each child’s age and stage of development;
  • clarity and accuracy of oral and writing skills in Irish and English;
  • a mastery of Mathematical skills and concepts relative to the child’s stage of development;
  • a deep appreciation of the Arts;
  • her/his creative talents;
  • a lively interest in general knowledge;
  • an awareness, understanding, and appreciation of the environment;
  • an active interest in leisure activities;
  • a high standard of behaviour;
  • interpersonal skills: respect for self, respect and courtesy towards others, respect for authority;
  • respect for property; creativity, adaptability, independence, self-confidence and fulfilment;
  • high moral values and attitudes;
  • habits of industry, perseverance, and tolerance;
  • good health and hygiene habits;
  • an ability to make prudent choices and decisions;
  • preparation for further education so that he/she goes on to live a fulfilling life as an adult in society.
