POLICY IN RELATION TO PUPILS’ MOBILE PHONES

It is recognised that mobile phones can be intrusive and distracting, particularly in schools.  In addition to the inconvenience, the debate still goes on about the possible harmful effects of the frequent use of mobile phones.  Children could be particularly vulnerable in this issue.
It is school policy that pupils are forbidden to use mobile phones in the school, or on school outings
If this rule is broken, the phone will be confiscated and only returned when a parent of the child calls to the school.
During the school year, it may be necessary to follow the same procedure in relation to other items of distraction, e.g. personal stereos, collectable cards, stickers etc.
The use of mobile phones by staff for essential calls should be kept to the minimum, and should be taken/ made if possible in an open area or in an area where pupils are not present.
