Games - Chess

There were twenty teams of four and we had to play three games amongst each other. I came in first place in my group. I won all my games and I would recommend it to anyone who (1.Would like to learn chess or.2.Would want to compete). After the league you can take a test and try to go into Grade 2 by getting either 14/15 or 15/15.If you get one of these scores you will get a certificate to show your achievement of Grade1.I would give the chess league 10/10!

On my first day of chess Mr. Mc Hugh {my chess teacher} thought us how to move the pieces. The Rook can move forwards, backwards and sideways. The Knight moves in an L shape and can jump over his own pieces. The Bishop moves diagonally. The King can move only one space at a time and can go anywhere. The Queen is the most powerful piece, she can move as many spaces as she wants and where she wants. Pawns are the most weakest pieces on the board, On their first go they can move.

The Swimming Review

I think the swimming was really good. I had loads of fun. It helped us to swim and not to talk when the instructors is talking. They showed us how to the back stroke, the front crawl and many more things. The instructors also told us not to hold other people under the water even if you're just playing as they might drown. There were two groups beginners and improvers. The beginners were for people who could swim a bit and The improvers were people who could swim better than the beginners. At the end of some lessons we got to play for a while. When we went
To the pool every Thursday and if the beginners had no arm-bands. With them they would give arm-bands there. On the last day we had a relay and it was the beginners and the improvers mixed up with each other and it didn't matter who won. At the end of that they gave us loads of time to play and if I had to give the swimming a rate out of ten. I would give it ten out of ten.

CASTLEBAR HISTORY
In the old days every-body played out-side because there were no play-stations or game-boys .Nothing like that yes nothin! Every-body did sports and played games. Fun days like. Grown-up's worked long hours and got very little pay. During the war people got very little food. Awful! Awful! Awful! But after the war every-thing was back to normal. Pay started to go up. So every-one was happy.

BAZAAR
On Friday we had a BAZAAR.
We are hoping to raise money for charity. We're going to sell all kinds of things and it's going to be great!

A Visitor to our Classroom
Adams Granny came into us on Wednesday. She told us how life was like years ago. It was very interesting. She said if they were bold they would get hit with a stick. It must have been sore. She said her and her father worked in the cinema. They had to walk in there feet to school sometimes.Sometimes Adams Granny got to see films for free. She said that back then 1p was a lot of money. I'm glad she came to our class.

Poems by Mrs Grady's class

Rock Star
I want to be a rock star
For all the years of my life,
And when I grow older
I'll sing the walk of life

I'll write a few of my own
but I have to grow older first.
I'll buy a couple of guitars
and hope I don't buy the worst.

SCHOOL
SCHOOL, SCHOOL SUCH A WONDERFUL PLACE
YOU WRITE SO MUCH YOU HAVE NO MORE SPACE

YOU LEARN ALL YOUR SUMS LIKE 2 TIMES 2
YOU LEARN ALIVE 0 AND ABOUT JESUS TOO

YOU LEARN ABOUT EARTH AND OUTER SPACE
AND IN OUR PLAYGROUND WE ALWAYS RACE!
