Three
weeks ago the cross-country running began in our school. Mr.Conlon and
Mr.Canning were the two main organisers with a lot of other teachers
helping out as well.
The first stage was just each class on their own doing laps of the school
pitch. The first six finishers in each race got through to the second
stage which was between the two clases in each year. From the results
of those races there were three over tens teams and two under under
tens teams picked to represent the school in the West Mayo Finals in
Ballinrobe. In the over tens race the "A" team finished first
and in the under tens the "A" team finished first as well.
The Mayo Finals were held in Beleek, Ballina. The under tens team came
first and the over tens team came third. The over tens team got through
to the Connaught Finals held in Beleek as well. But never found out
how they did. Since that the race for the cup was held with the first
six from each class running the top three were: Peter Lyons, Mike O'Donnell
and Jack Maughan.
