Mayo TDs sign "Stop Climate Chaos" Call to Action

All five of Mayo's TDs have signed the "Stop Climate Chaos" Call to Action. On Tuesday the 13th of November in Buswells Hotel, Dublin, over 90 TDs and Senators, including all Mayo TDs, from across the political spectrum met their local constituents and Stop Climate Chaos supporters to discuss climate change and measures that must be taken to address it. Constituents from across Ireland urged their local TDs to support and implement the Stop Climate Chaos Call to Action. 

Over 70 TDs in attendance signed the Call to Action, highlighting the growing political consensus that the Ireland must urgently reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by an average of three percent a year and enact legislation to underpin climate change policy. A commitment was also made by TDs to support developing countries to cope with the impacts of climate change that we have already caused.

The positive response to the ‘Carbon Date’ event and the unprecedented cross party support for the Stop Climate Chaos Call To Action provides a platform for Mayo and Ireland to do its fair share to combat climate change.

On December 8th Ireland, along with numerous countries world wide will be hosting events to coincide with the UN Climate Talks in Bali, Indonesia, from the 3rd to the 14th December 2007.

Mayo will also be showing its support to preventing runaway climate change on December 8th. Mayo county library will have an exhibition on Global Warming from December 8th until the end of December and Andy Wilson of the Sustainability Institute will be speaking on Global Warming in the County Library in Castlebar on Tuesday 11th of December.
