Irelands Best Kept Town 2009

The awards for Ireland's Best Kept Town were presented in Dublin Castle on Monday June 22. Thirteen villages, small and large towns and large urban areas were selected from an entry of 800, both North and South of the border.


Castlebar was in the Large Town category together with Hollywood Co Down, Ennis Co Clare and Westport.  Ennis was the winner in this category. The overall winners were Newcastle Co Down.


Castlebar was represented at the function by Mayor Cllr Michael Kilcoyne, Nora Coyne, Town Council and Noel and Eithne Byrne from the Tidy Town Committee.


The competition is jointly organised by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and the Northern Ireland Amenity Council in association with the Department of the Environment (N.I.)
