Never mind soap stars, what about the poor unfortunates on the BB whose parents named them after characters out of science-fiction and fantasy novels. Have they no imagination at all.
And what's wrong with naming your child Dinny, Miley or Biddy, anyway?
I agree about the placenames though. To me it's a sign of affectation and an inferiority complex. The original Irish names for these places are usually nicer and more descriptive and appropriate for the area but I guess there is still some snobbery relating to being categorised as rural or Irish or both.
