I'm not sure if the American version has had a millionaire either. I was watching Letterman the other night (I hate that show, I was just flicking through the channels, I swear) and he was making a joke (if you can call it that, but by his standards, I guess) that the whole point of the show was that no-one could win the million because if they did then who would watch the following week to see somebody win a couple of grand.
Not much of a joke, but the point is probably valid.
