So I've heard, shockingly. Wow Castlebar has changed bif time in the few years I've been away so.
I've also heard, all be it second hand, but on good authority, that use is rampant amongst every age group from <12 yr olds up to the 30 somethings and that it is now the social "drug" of choice far more popular than either alcohol or hash/weed/pot. Also heard that Cocaine is relatively easy to come by now in C-bar So what's the reason?
Is it the coming of the RTC that the town fathers fought so hard for? Is it a offshoot of the prosperity of the Celtic Tiger? Is it the growing popularity and "reputation" of Castlebar as a dance center?
OR is it just plain and simple boredom of a small west of Ireland town (facing reality here!!) whose young people are driven to this (not an excuse I'd say but then I don't like there) for their thrills in the absence of much else in the way of excitement?
Either way I'd say if I am aware of it at my distance from Castlebar then the authorities can't but be aware of it and are either powerless or apathetic or just totally ignorant of what to do about it. Eitehr that or they're benefitting from it too so are loath to bite the hand that feed them. Serious allegations I know and I reakon this is the first public discussion of this issue in Castlebar (Ironic isn't it that a BB in cyberspace brings the issue to the fore) . I doubt if the Parish council or the "most up to date" CT are even aware of this yet let alone tackling it.
