Mayo General Hospital

Introduction

Mayo General Hospital provides acute hospital care for the population of County Mayo. Its specialities include General Surgery, Medicine, Paediatrics, and Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The Hospital also has a Kidney Dialysis Unit.

There are currently 226 beds in the hospital, and we have an annual in-patient turnover of over 16,000 patients. The Hospital has over 70,000 patient attendances at our Out-Patients, and Accident and Emergency Departments annually.

Future Developments

Hospital The design plans for the major Phase Two developments at the Hospital are well advanced , and it is the Boards intention to have a contractor on site before the end of the year, subject to the Department of Health allocating the necessary capital funding. New ward areas will be constructed with the provision of an Orthopaedic Unit, a Geriatric Unit and a Psychiatric Unit. The Phase Two major development also includes the construction of Ancillary Departments i.e. Accident and Emergency Department, Laboratory etc.
