The Elio Villafranca Jazz Quartet Monday 13th October @ 8.00pm

Featuring some of the finest players on the American Latin jazz scene, The Elio Villafranca Jazz Quartet delivers a hefty dollop of Afro-Cuban jazz with a dash of Thelonious Monk, Claude Debussy and Errol Garner thrown into the mix. The group features Cuban pianist Elio Villafranca, one of the rising stars of the US and Latin jazz scenes. Noted for his razor-sharp technique, harmonic vision and rhythmic panache, Villafranca effortlessly fuses classical, bebop and African influences with the musical traditions of his native Cuba, while remaining a true individualist. On this tour Villafranca is joined by Juno Award winner and Grammy-nominee Jane Bunnett (flute/saxophone), who has spent the last twenty five years touring her own brand of Cuban jazz around the world. The stellar line-up is completed by bassist Yunior Terry and drummer Ludwig Afonso, both with impeccable Latin jazz credentials on the world stage. The Elio Villafranca Jazz Quartet performs here as part of a Music Network tour. Why not put some Latin sunshine into the Irish autumn?

“Elio Villafranca’s playing… is like a quiet volcano, starting slowly, gradually building in intensity, until the music erupts in a cascade of sound, rhythm and color.” - Philadelphia Tribune
