POETRY Wednesday 5th December @ 8.00pm

One of Ireland's foremost and most prolific poets, Paul Durcan returns to his Mayo roots for one of his legendary readings. Surreal, idiosyncratic, iconoclastic and full of quirky roguishness, Paul Durcan has carved out a distinctive status that straddles critical acclaim and popularity, a rare achievement in the world of poetry. With a back catalogue that includes A Snail in my Prime, Crazy About Women, Greetings to Our Friends in Brazil, the Whitbread Prize-winning Daddy, Daddy and Cries of an Irish Caveman, his 22nd collection, the recently published Praise in Which I Live and Move and Have My Being, has confirmed that Durcan remains one of the most potent voices in contemporary poetry.

"Durcan has wit, charm and spark. Poetry is his - and our - rescuer." - Kate Kellaway, The Observer
"Durcan is a charismatic performer whose voice, once heard, haunts the printed pages of his books. If there were a prize for the best reader of one's own poems, he would probably win it hands down." - Fran Brearton, The Guardian
"A simply marvellous poet." - Thomas McCarthy, The Irish Examiner
