RoolaBoola is one of the leading children's arts festivals in Ireland

The celebrations include a selection of the highest calibre national and international children's theatre, music and dance shows as well as other arts events, including children's book readings, films, exhibitions, street performances and a multitude of hands-on arts workshops in a range of media for children and their families.

RoolaBoola takes place annually over the bank holiday weekend at the end of October, and in 2015 runs from Friday 23 to Friday 30 October. The brochure is available on the Linenhall Arts Centre website together with a lot of useful information for RoolaBoola Children's Arts Festival attenders.

A family visit to the theatre can take the form of an extended experience. The Prince's Foundation for Children and the Arts have prepared this useful guide for "Taking Children and Young People to the Theatre"

Family friendly outdoor activities include an abundance of short walks. We recommend a visit to Lough Lannagh where you can explore the Landmark sculpture trail, make use of the adult exercise machines and visit the playgrounds on both sides of the lake (one at the entrance to Castlebar Tennis Club, and one at the rear of Lough Lannagh). There is also a playground located beside Scoil Raifteiri in the Town Park, a 6 minute walk from the Linenhall Arts Centre.
