Ó Euskadi go hÉirinn - The Basque Irish Connection
TRADITIONAL MUSIC Monday 21st September 8.00pm
Could this be the longest-awaited reunion tour in history? Recent studies have revealed a common ancestry between the Irish and Basques dating back some 8,000 years, both peoples fiercely proud of their musical heritage. Music Network brings together world-class musicians from the two traditions for this very special tour: All-Ireland Champion on both fiddle and concertina, Killarney-born Niamh Ni Charra; Ibon Koteron, one of the Basque country’s best-known musicians and exponent of the alboka (Basque hornpipe) and dultzaina (similar to a Breton bombarde); and Dublin-born Gavin Ralston, the guitarist of choice for such luminaries as Sharon Shannon, Donal Lunny, Steve Wickham and Anúna.
