FOLK DANCE

Transported by an intoxicating music from here with accents from elsewhere, Montreal dance company Zogma takes you on a rhythmic journey through the streets of their city and through the landscapes of the West of Ireland in a special adaptation of Sokalo. Sokalo represents a gathering place, the happiness of reuniting, and the joy of sharing memories with friends.
It is the urban rhythms that modulate to life. Zogma will be collaborating with Irish dancers Caitlin Nic Gabhainn, Edwina Guckian and Liam Scanlon and musician Laoise Kelly, whose individual styles reflect the music, dance, people and landscapes of the environments they are influenced by. When the urban rhythms in Sokalo intermingle with the rural rhythms of traditional dance and music in Ireland, expect a magical result! Join us on this journey inspired by the living traditions of Ireland and Quebec, in this exciting cross-cultural collaboration, produced by The Dock and Zogma Dance, with assistance from an Irish Arts Council Deis Award and the Arts Councils of Canada and Quebec.
