Cameraman Tommy Hughes and scriptwriter- narrator Joe McDermott with their new DVD.

A new DVD 'Old Port to Newport - An Historical Journey' will be screened at the Wednesday, December 11th, meeting of the society in the Lecture Theatre, GMIT Castlebar, commencing at 8 pm. The video is the work of videographer Tommy Hughes, and author and historian Joe McDermott and it examines the development of Newport from the Early Christian period, to the coming of the medieval monks. It also looks at the arrival of the Westport - Achill light railway and the uncanny predictions about the first and last trains. The priceless Harry Clarke windows in Newport Church are shown and their significance is explained and there is much more. This is a unique opportunity to learn something of an ancient part of our heritage in an interesting and entertaining way.
