"Mayo Libraries: Memories, tales and anecdotes"
Mary Gavin of the Mayo Library Service has put pen to paper to give the public an insight into the workings of the library service as seen through her eyes. Her new book "Mayo Libraries: tales and anecdotes" which is due to be launched at the Castlebar library at 8pm, on Monday, November 14th  , relates many amusing stories of weird things done by the public and even weirder things done by staff. It tells of strange things found in books, and stranger still, a fascinating story of how someone was cured of chronic tonsillitis.
Mary Gavin has worked in Castlebar Library for over twenty-seven years. She has written and compiled numerous local history articles for "Killawalla: The Road to Our Hearts" and "Killawalla: At Home and Away" and has also been on the Editorial Team of these magazines which explore the life and lore of her local community of Killawalla - (between Westport and Ballinrobe).A number of her many poems have been published in local newspapers. The in-depth study of a local village of Ballyburke which she researched featured in Cathair na Mart magazine 2006-2007(No.25).
