Rapid Progress on Phase
II
The site works on Phase II of the
new hospital are progressing to timetable. The Maternity floor is
taking shape, and the new Accident and Emergency Department is also
appearing. The lower picture was taken on
17/10/99.


The Minister for Health, Mr. Brian
Cowan TD turned the sod on the development on Friday 22nd. January.
New ward areas will be constructed
with the provision of an Orthopaedic Unit, a Geriatric Unit, a new
Maternity Unit and Labour Ward, a new Gynaecology Ward, and a
Psychiatric Unit.
These will bring the bed compliment
up to 240 beds. The Phase Two major development also includes the
construction of Ancillary Departments i.e. Accident and Emergency
Department, Laboratory etc.
It is anticipated that Stage 1 of
the building will be fitted out and ready to go into service in
March-April 2000. Large areas of the old building will then be
cleared for redevelopment for their planned new functions in Stage 2
of the development.
