New ward areas will be constructed with the provision of an Orthopaedic Unit, a Geriatric Unit, a new Maternity Unit and Labour Ward, a new Gynaecology Ward, and a Psychiatric Unit.

These will bring the bed compliment up to 240 beds. The Phase Two major development also includes the construction of Ancillary Departments i.e. Accident and Emergency Department, Laboratory etc.

It is anticipated that Stage 1 of the building will be fitted out and ready to go into service in March-April 2000. Large areas of the old building will then be cleared for redevelopment for their planned new functions in Stage 2 of the development.
