The median age of the Traveller community is 14 years. The median age for the national population is 27 years. 80% of Travellers are under 25. The shorter average life expectancy of Travellers is only part of the reason for the figures. The main reason for the low average age of the "traveling" community is the fact that they tend to marry younger and have larger families.
