Mother's Day workshop

The museum is hosting a free, fun and creative workshop to celebrate Mother's Day on Sunday, March 26, from 2.30 to 4pm. The workshop is suitable for adults and children aged seven plus. Participants will get to create a unique Mother's Day gift in the form of an accordion book filled with special memories, drawings and promises. The workshop will be facilitated by book binder and artist Eilis Murphy of Folded Leaf. This is an ideal activity for children and mothers to enjoy together. Knitting circle

Learn something new this spring at the Museum of Country Life's Knitting and Crochet Circle. The group's next meeting is on Friday, March 24, from 11am to 1pm. Start a spring knitting project or get some help to finish off an old one. Beginners are welcome. No booking required.

Meet the crafters

The talent Connacht Textile Crafters are at the museum on Saturday, March 25, to showcase a range of traditional and contemporary textile crafts. Come along to this show and tell event from 11.30am to 3.30pm to view their work and learn about textile crafts. This is a free, drop-in event and no booking is required.

Feasts, fasts and festivals

Learn about the time-honoured pattern of feasts, fasts and festivals observed by our ancestors. The exhibition, Life in the Community, is featured on Level C of the main museum galleries. It explores the ways in which our rural ancestors arranged their lives and celebrations, in tune with the rhythm of the seasons, the agricultural year and religious observances. The exhibition features objects, rare photography and archive film footage to offer a fascinating insight into life in the community in times gone by.


Museum opening hours

The National Museum of Ireland - Country Life is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 10am to 5pm, and on Sundays from 2 to 5pm. Brambles Café in the courtyard is open during museum opening hours with extended opening on Sundays from 12noon.
