CROSS OF CONG COMPETITION
The National Museum of Ireland - Country Life invites students to use their creative writing skills by composing a poem or a short story inspired by the Cross of Cong. The Cross of Cong is one of Ireland's greatest treasures which returns to Mayo after an absence of 170 years. It was made in 1123 to encase a fragment of the True Cross.
Terms & Conditions:
The competition is open to original unpublished short stories/poems in the English language of 500 words max for Primary Students and 1000 words max for Post-Primary Students. The story or poem should be based on the Cross of Cong. Your entry should preferably be written in clear legible handwriting, double-spaced and should appear on one side of the page only. Alternatively entries could be typed (size 12 font).
Manuscripts cannot be returned.
Your entry should have a title. An overall prize will be awarded to the best short story/poem. The judges, whose decision is final, will also award a number of prizes to
entries that are highly recommended. Prize-winning entries and a selection of entries of merit will be published on our website.
Entries clearly marked ‘Schools Competition Cross of Cong' will be accepted up until 27th February 2011.
A completed entry form must accompany each short story/poem (see below or attached Word file.)
